The use of technology is allowing for new levels of power to be squeezed out of engines in exciting ways. At Ross Pistons, we now make custom pistons for racers that will allow for more compression with the use of digitization technology.
To help an engine maximize its compression, Ross is offering a service where they use a 3D digitization process to create a piston that is ultra-efficient. Customers can send in their cylinder head, a mold of the chamber, or a CAD drawing to Ross so they can make a duplicate of the chamber’s profile. That 3D digital copy is then used to make a piston that will contour the chamber closer and bump up the compression to its maximum amount.
The pistons are only made from 2618 aluminum at this time. The lead time for the pistons can range anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on the workload at Ross, design of your piston, and the options that you want. You just need a CAD drawing, cylinder head, or mold to send in and Ross can get the process started to provide you with some trick custom pistons!
“If you use standard cutters that just come in angles you’re never going to get all the contours to get the most compression out of your engine. We use the 3D process to make the piston an exact match so it has less wasted space and has tight tolerances to produce the most compression possible.” – Chris Madsen
